Contemporary music
The Chamber Choir has a strong tradition of championing works by contemporary composers, and where possible likes to work with the composer on realising their music. The Choir has previously worked with Paul Patterson, Russell Hepplewhite and Alexander Campkin. Repertoire performed includes works by Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, Veljo Tormis, James Macmillan, Paul Mealor and Benjamin Britten. Choral favourites Alongside contemporary works, the Choir has performed choral favourites such as Faure's Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. Unaccompanied repertoire includes both sacred and secular works, ranging from medieval plainsong through English and Italian Renaissance to German Romanticism, French chansons and works from Norway, Scotland and America. Women composers The Choir also endeavours to programme works by women composers, such as Jean Coulthard, Sarah Quartel and Sarah Rimkus. In 2018-19, the Choir is excited to be working with composer and performer, violinist Anna Phoebe, on a new piece exploring the intersection of music and scientific research for choir, ensemble and multi-media, Between Worlds, to be premiered in June 2019 in Colyer-Fergusson Hall. |
